The Storebro 33 was a great family-boat. The design based on the design of the 0.5-ton Racer Carter 33. Storebros designteam used this to create a classic and fast sailing yacht with lots of space and comfort on board.
Hull
Lennart Ivarsson and
Lars Bjureus had thought for several years about a new motor sailer from Storebro. This motor sailer should, unlike the ships on the market at the time, be more sailor than motorboat. In 1976 they remembered the molds of the Carter 33 stored at the Storebro yard since the beginning of the 1970s.
Dick Carter had asked Lennart Ivarsson to store these molds after Dick Carter broke up in an argument with the original shipyard of the Carter 33.
For the Storebro Royal 33 Dick Carter designed a new rudder blade, because the originally designed blade was very expensive to produce and a bit more susceptible to ground touching.
Although sold as a cruising and family boat, the Storebro Royal 33 satisfied even more demanding sailing owners. In fact, it was a modified 0.5 to hull, which at the time of its appearance could also compete with the very fast "Scampi 30".
Interior
Unlike many sailboats so far, the Storebro Royal 33 was designed to provide the same level of comfort and luxury known to motor boat customers. This included the well-known mahogany interior. Another important feature was the passage between fore and aft ship. Young parents did not risk their children crawling unattended through the cockpit.
